6,577 words and counting, but at least they're more or less out of the foreplay and into the more serious sexytimez now, good Lord. I guess. I know it's your first time, boys, but can we get on wiv it now?

...

You know, I've been working on this fic for like -- three months? I would really like to finish this epic smutty thing so I can play with the epic early!Rainsworth thing instead. It is only at 1,928 words and counting. Psh.

Oh oh oh, plz tell me you're writing a wee bit of LiamBreak smut. I haven't read any of that from you and I feel confident you'd do a wonderful job of it.

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha. "Wee bit". Haha. Ha.

[identity profile] gommyommy.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
A wisecrack about the size of someone's boy parts? :)

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
No! A wisecrack about how the damn thing is 6500 words long! *flail*

[identity profile] gommyommy.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that was my other guess...but my dirty mind won out. ;)

[identity profile] their-kingdom.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
She is and SHE IS. This thing is to die for.

Cal, I feel like I should give in and make advertisements. Icons or posters or something. Announcements. "From the author of TAIGTS comes a new epic..."

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
You are making me paranoid that you and I will be the only ones who like this thing. XD

[identity profile] their-kingdom.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Don't be silly! How can anyone say no to horndog!Liam?

Oops was that a spoiler? >:D

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
He's not a horndog. He's healthy and twenty-six. Also nekkid!Break.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Every time a new chapter comes out TK swoons all over my IM and asks me why Break is such a beautiful, beautiful man.

You'd be pleased to find him happily sitting in your lap and making snide comments about staying there all night, too. Don't deny it. XD

[identity profile] their-kingdom.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I- I- h-hey-! You can't just tell people that, you know!! That is PRIVATE swooning!!

Yes I give up, as much as I love them both, it must be that I identify more with Liam and am in love with Xerxes.

They are both such beautiful beautiful men.

That's either a heck of a lot of foreplay or they're just being a damn tease. (Yes, they are being a tease. You know what I mean.)

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
In their defense, I'm filling the "Break turns out to be a virgin" prompt, which had the double whammy of being a "this is their first time going at it as a couple, too" prompt. So I had to give them a reason to be going at it instead of just flinging them into the bed.

But it would also help if they would stop talkiiiiiiiiing.

Ah yes. You and I are both cursed with that pesky need for characters to have a reason to have sex. Really, I wish I could just slip past that sometimes! I would save so much time and trouble. And words.

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I was completely okay with it a few thousand words ago. Now I feel like I am standing over them with a flyswatter, waving it around and going, "Will you kindly shut up and put him in your mouth. >:["

And with that final comment, I head off to bed.

Hahahaha, I made you say "sprflpfft".

[identity profile] gommyommy.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't horniness a reason? ;)

[identity profile] gommyommy.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! I'm glad you're doing that prompt. I filled it too but didn't get much feedback so I figure it must have sucked.

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
The problem I had with it was mainly that Break was totally oblivious as to the -- ahem -- ins and outs of sex.* Regardless of whether he'd actually ever done it or not, he's an intelligent man, and plenty worldly. He'd at least be aware of the mechanics.

*hurr hurr

[identity profile] gommyommy.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the feedback! I could have taken it either way, but thought it would be far sweeter and cuter if he were clueless about the mechanics. Maybe that made it OOC, but I have this curse of having far too broad of an imagination for my own good.

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I have this curse of having far too broad of an imagination for my own good.

Which is great, except that you're working within the parameters of someone else's characters -- that's the challenge, in fanfic, the fact that you have to abide by the characters' rules instead of whatever you might want in a story. I've noticed you manage them a lot better when you stop to think things through a bit more; that's why the farm thing is turning out so brilliantly, I think. You're making all these hilarious connections like Break and Liam distracting Sharon with a TV so they can get some alone time and Rufus Barma watching Mythbusters.

I think it might help you to put a bit more time into your fic -- you punch out new ones so quickly it's almost overwhelming. Slowing down, or at least putting finished fic to the side for a while before you reread it and post it, might be very beneficial for your serious fics, because it will give you the time to have more control over what you're doing instead of leaving things up to the whims of your imagination.

[identity profile] gommyommy.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with the need to slow down and let things gel for a while before rereading… that's been suggested to me before, and I've been working on doing that. (The trouble is I fall in love with the feeling of a story and want to reread it thirty times and edit it over and over again and can't leave it alone! Oh and then when I have someone theoretically waiting for me to fill a prompt, I get too eager to post. Now if I could just convince myself to stop looking at that stupid kink meme and go back to writing original fic for a while…)

The 'writing someone else's characters' thing is tricky, especially since not everyone agrees about the characters' traits. I know there's 'canon' but oddly, people can't even seem to agree on that. It tends to come down to how you interpret the vaguries of the words and images, and everyone does that according to their own biases.

[identity profile] calliope-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
The troublesome things are probably the ones most worth doing. And if you feel obligated to write quickly when you grab something off the meme, don't claim it right off. If you don't start taking the time to put real work into it instead of flinging fic around willy-nilly you're not going to give yourself the chance to grow as a writer. It'll give others a chance to fill things as well -- I'm totally willing to double fill if I like a prompt that much, but I'm sure others consider it rude, and sometimes even I will snatch up a prompt as quick as possible for fear someone else will get it first. I've taken on more than I should have recently for exactly that reason.

That's All I've Got to Say took me a month of active work. The current fic has taken me three.

Also, there's bias and then there's complete lack of realism. One thing you should understand about me as a writer is that I treat my characters -- all of them, original or otherwise -- as though they are real people. They're not concepts for me to throw around; they're partners that I work with. I'm arrogant enough to say I'm a pretty talented writer, and that I can absolutely, for instance, get Break to admit his softer feelings and cry and all that. But he's going to do it the way Break would do it, not the way I would like have him do it to satisfy whatever fantasy I am having that week. I have biases too, but it doesn't matter what they are -- the cores of these characters are still right there in front of me in the manga.

And with that I am going to bed for the night. Ciao.
