6,577 words and counting, but at least they're more or less out of the foreplay and into the more serious sexytimez now, good Lord. I guess. I know it's your first time, boys, but can we get on wiv it now?
...
You know, I've been working on this fic for like -- three months? I would really like to finish this epic smutty thing so I can play with the epic early!Rainsworth thing instead. It is only at 1,928 words and counting. Psh.

Cal, I feel like I should give in and make advertisements. Icons or posters or something. Announcements. "From the author of TAIGTS comes a new epic..."

You'd be pleased to find him happily sitting in your lap and making snide comments about staying there all night, too. Don't deny it. XD

Yes I give up, as much as I love them both, it must be that I identify more with Liam and am in love with Xerxes.
They are both such beautiful beautiful men.no subject

Which is great, except that you're working within the parameters of someone else's characters -- that's the challenge, in fanfic, the fact that you have to abide by the characters' rules instead of whatever you might want in a story. I've noticed you manage them a lot better when you stop to think things through a bit more; that's why the farm thing is turning out so brilliantly, I think. You're making all these hilarious connections like Break and Liam distracting Sharon with a TV so they can get some alone time and Rufus Barma watching Mythbusters.
I think it might help you to put a bit more time into your fic -- you punch out new ones so quickly it's almost overwhelming. Slowing down, or at least putting finished fic to the side for a while before you reread it and post it, might be very beneficial for your serious fics, because it will give you the time to have more control over what you're doing instead of leaving things up to the whims of your imagination.

The 'writing someone else's characters' thing is tricky, especially since not everyone agrees about the characters' traits. I know there's 'canon' but oddly, people can't even seem to agree on that. It tends to come down to how you interpret the vaguries of the words and images, and everyone does that according to their own biases.

That's All I've Got to Say took me a month of active work. The current fic has taken me three.
Also, there's bias and then there's complete lack of realism. One thing you should understand about me as a writer is that I treat my characters -- all of them, original or otherwise -- as though they are real people. They're not concepts for me to throw around; they're partners that I work with. I'm arrogant enough to say I'm a pretty talented writer, and that I can absolutely, for instance, get Break to admit his softer feelings and cry and all that. But he's going to do it the way Break would do it, not the way I would like have him do it to satisfy whatever fantasy I am having that week. I have biases too, but it doesn't matter what they are -- the cores of these characters are still right there in front of me in the manga.
And with that I am going to bed for the night. Ciao.
